We made for the mountains after Durango toward Silverton and Ouray.
The drive was absolutely beautiful and very reminiscent of Alaska in some ways. Higher elevation and cooler temperatures made for a relatively smooth drive.
Getting into Ouray, you can see why they call it the Switzerland of America. Surrounded by rock cliffs and visible mine shafts and some beautiful rugged terrain.
We had a relaxing evening after the drive and the kids all caught up on some much needed rest. The next morning we went to the Ouray Hot Springs. They closed the pool right after we got out due to nearby thunder and lightning storms. We still had a blast.
On to Four Corners next!
